another blog asked us to comment on an article about cheaters… sooo, we naively gave our basic girl power vibe on it… cheating = bad. not cheating = good. we had no idea that we’d start a crazy maze of people DEFENDING cheaters and why people stay in relationships with cheaters?! we were quickly reminded why we usually avoid website commenting unless it’s something like “totally cute hello kitty purse!”.

why we’re buzzing…

exercise. fresh air. nature. beautiful scenery. friendship.

why we love it

all 4 of us kind of grew up hiking quite a bit. we love the outdoors, and we love being in nature. we probably love hiking more than your average girlie girls and princess chicks. it’s kind of in our favorite things to do of all time category.

hiking is exercise, but that’s not really the main intention. when you go on a hike, you’re exploring! you get to wander, and climb, and you end up in these beautiful corners of the world that you never knew existed. there is just something really amazing about being in miles of really tall trees, and then coming around a corner where there is suddenly a gigantic waterfall.

what you need if you’re going hiking

water

water, water, water. most important thing to bring. our favorites to bring are peppermint water, and water with Emergen-C vitamin powder.

a snack

if you are going hiking, you will be active for a couple hours, so take a granola bar, P B & J sandwich, fruit, or some other healthy carbs to replenish your energy.

you can usually get these at visitor centers where ever you go hiking. they seriously helpful, and you never know how easy it can be to get lost… which would not be fun.

clothing layers

get some super cute work out clothes in layers. when you’re hiking, you will likely travel through different temperatures… sometimes you’ll be super hot when you’re out in the sun, and you can get chilly when you go through shadows or are deep in the trees.

for sure get some good hiking boots or running shoes with good traction. you’ll be on your feet all day, so you want to be comfy!

camera

you never know what amazing pic ops you may come across on a hike. if you are a photographer, for sure take your fav camera, but if you are worried about a camera getting lost or damaged on a major hike – take a disposal camera that wont cause you heartache if anything happens to it.

some of our favorite hiking adventures so far

we have been lucky enough to get to go hiking in some pretty awesome places. of course there are a million more places we want to go, but here are some of our favorite hikes so far…

The Redwood Forest, Northern California

it’s where they filmed the scenes for the Ewok Village in ‘Return of The Jedi’, so it’s for sure awesome. it’s got some of the biggest trees you’ll ever see, and it’s got some amazing greenery, so it’s like a real life enchanted forest.

Crater Lake, Oregon

this hike is so unique because you start at the tippy top of the crater, looking down from way above the lake. then you hike down over 2 miles of switchbacks to get to the lake shore. yes you have to hike back up haha, but it’s totally worth it.

Grand Canyon, Arizona

this is obviously too massive for words, and too much hiking to explain. it’s for sure one of those things you have to experience in your lifetime… atleast once.

Yosemite, California

any step you take in Yosemite is going to be pure heaven. krissie actually lived in Yosemite for 2 years as a kid, so she was lucky enough to get to hike all over. the park is filled with waterfalls, meadows, hiking trails, rivers, mountains, canyons, lakes, trees, flowers, butterflies… like we said, pure heaven.

Fall Creek Falls, Tennessee

anywhere with waterfalls is our favorite . this hike is amazing because it has this huge 256 ft. tall waterfall that is the highest waterfall in the eastern United States! that’s big for reals.

Zion National Park, Utah

Zion Canyon is not for wussys. the hiking here can get pretty insane – it’s famous for narrow, steep, pretty difficult stuff, but totally worth it to get to explore the canyons and the red rocks.

Mt. Lassen, Northern California

hands down one of krissie and jenna’s favrit’ places ever. you can go from snowy peak to sunny meadow in one day, and you can even hike to the very top of Mt. Lassen, and it seriously feels like you can see all of California there.

why we’re buzzing…

adrenaline. adventure. nature. excitement. fun.

have we done it?

ashlee has. the rest of us totally want to someday. we all have pretty big adventure streaks, but this one is actually pretty scary to us. water is unpredictable… and powerful… and well, cold haha! but we still want to try it!

in the group, atleast one us and sometimes all of us, have tried bungee jumping, skydiving, paragliding, cliff jumping, and a ton of other pretty crazy things. but, ashlee is the only one of us that has tried white water rafting.

we really are pretty game to try adventurous things, but when it comes to the idea of being wildly thrown down a canyon bend in tons of aggressive water… the rest of us actually find that darn intimidating haha. it’s the drowing thing – a little scary yo. but we still want to try it someday, and we were pretty suprised at all the places in the USA you can do it! we picked out some of the places that look they would be amazing to go rafting at…

River Rafting Adventures

Oregon – Rogue River

Oregon is a huge river rafting destination. there are a few major river rafting spots in Oregon, but the Rogue River is the one we want to try. it passes by Crater Lake National Park – which is amazing, and goes through the Rogue River National Forest. on this trip, we hear you stop at pretty beaches, and see adorable wildlife.

California – Merced River

krissie lived in Yosemite for a little bit when she was little, so she used to play in Merced River, which is right outside Yosemite National Park. that whole area is breathtaking, and we’d love to go rafting where krissie used to wear her water wings haha.

Arizona – Grand Canyon

river rafting on the Colorado River in one of the most incredible places on earth… what could be more awesome?! you go for like a whole week, and you camp, and they feed you, and you live in the canyon for a few days. sound totally adventurous and amazing.

Idaho – Salmon River

we have already been suprised at how beautiful Idaho is, and we had no idea! the Salmon River Rafting Trip boasts “pine forests and granite mountains”… sounds perfect.

Colorado – Arkansas River

the Arkansas River… in Colorado? yeah haha confusing, but true. this sounds like the scariest one eek! anyways… when we get brave enough we want to tackle this one. maybe we’ll try one of the other rivers first, and build our courage up .

i’m totally the tomboy of the group, so this is like my favrit’ quote ever on Pretty Princess Girls so far. i have played soccer, run track, camped, hiked, played football with the boys, and basically ran around with bruised knees and banged up shins since i can remember. i am also a cheerleader, and love being a girlie girl! both sides of myself make me feel alive and confident, and those things both make me feel incredibly feminine and beautiful.

all 4 of us girls are cheerleaders, and major girlie girls, but we’re also super adventurous and love getting pretty crazy and rough and tumble at times. we all are also runners, ashlee plays soccer like a maniac, we all love hiking and camping and going on mud runs. i just can’t imagine living in a time where girls had to be a certain way, and hold themselves back to be beautiful. i love that we live in a country and a generation where beauty comes on all shapes, sizes, attitudes, and types of girls.

i agree with krissie, i can’t imagine living in a world where we would have to put limits on ourselves to be considered feminine. i know that thinking still exists in certain places of the world, and even in the minds of people in the US, but thanks to hotties like Gabby Reece, Anna Kournikova, Gretchen Bleiler, Malia Jones, Niki Gudex, and Allison Stokke, who are athletes and some of the most beautiful women in the world, those barriers have basically been smashed.
