5 Reasons Why We Don’t Completely Hate Reality Shows

what’s the randomness?

reality tv

what’s the buzz?

we know a ton of people are traumatized by it, but we don’t completely and totally hate all of it.

we don’t hate it?!?!

we don’t! ok, so we think ‘Wife Swap’ is obnoxious, and ‘Cheaters’ is totally depressing, but, there are a few reality shows we don’t hate, and a few reasons why…

1. real people are funny

real people in real life saying real things are totally hilarious. sometimes nothing scripted or written for a movie or tv show can be as funny as your friend who says funny stuff at parties, or dumb things on daily basis. our friends are totally funny. people are just funny in real life, so sometimes people on reality shows completely crack us up.

2. dance shows

we know, we know, this is on some people's top 5 'hate it' list, but we're dancers, so we're obsessed with dance shows. when we were kids, the only time we saw dancing on TV was if Britney was performing at the MTV Awards. now dance shows have taken over, and it's amazing for the dance community. dance is way more in demand, we get introduced to amazing dancers and choreographers who we would have never heard of, more people who never cared for dance are falling in love with it, across the board dance styles are progressing so much faster, there are more jobs for dancers, and we get to watch it all the time! dancers finally get to be stars, and we love that.

3. some of them are genuinely interesting

honestly, there are things we'd never know about, or learn about without reality tv, because reality tv puts things into a format that makes it more interesting than if it was in the news, or in a 3rd person perspective documentary. some are legitimate 1st person documentaries. think about shows like 'MTV's True Life'. it's kind of an amazing way for people who have unique situations or major challenges, to tell their story. and, it's their story - not someone else's version of their life.

4. we like the white noise

here's what we mean... we're not addicted to tv, but sometimes we just like to turn it on and mellow out. we like 'Disney Movies' and movies like 'Clueless' because they are easy to watch. we don't always want to watch something that makes us reflect or think too much. they are kind of like our generation's soap operas. it's funny because sometimes reality tv can take your mind off of stressful things in your own reality.

5. real people are inspiring

shows like 'Made', 'The Buried Life', and does anyone remember the show 'Eco-challenge'?! we love watching people conquer their fears, or try new things, or push themselves beyond what they are capable of. the kind of magic that happens when people are discovering themselves - that can't be scripted as beautifully as it happens in reality.

so maybe it's just our perspective... we think real life is funny, interesting, beautiful, exciting - so to us, certain reality shows just aren't so bad.

I don’t totally hate it either, in fact I love it, and I’m not afraid to admit it. It’s terrible and awesome all in a gossip packed half hour. I’m sad The Hills is ending. No really, I’m serious.
