what’s the review?
totally underrated. this is such an awesome “spirit of the athlete movie” and Pre is one of the greatest American athletes for sure. Jared Leto pulls this off amazingly, so even if it wasn’t a major blockbuster, we’re still watching it over and over.
the story…
the movie is based on the life of Steve Prefontaine, who was an was an American middle distance and long-distance runner, who set the running world on fire, but then died young in a car accident. he was a small kid from Oregon who wanted to play sports, but couldn’t hang with the big boys, until he discovered running. once he found running, he didn’t stop. he went on to hold the American records in the seven distance track events from the 2000 meters to the 10,000 meters all at one time. he made it to the Olympics, but a terrorist disaster strikes the games and his race mentality falls apart. because Pre’s life is cut short, he never fulfills his Olympic Dream, but he still has left a legacy behind that no one in Track and Field distance running has come close to matching.
being huge track fans our whole lives, and having grown up around the sport, we have heard about Prefontaine for as long as we can remember. but, he died before we were even born, so we weren’t around to actually experience it, so this movie is awesome for us because we get to hear the full story.
since we are such massive fans of the sport, we love this movie just because it’s a track and field movie, but even if you are not that into the sport, it’s a one of those great “hero” movies, and Jared Leto is kinda irresistible 
.
