why we're crushing…

on the latest episode of 'So You Think You Can Dance' they were having the dancers talk about who inspires them, and we were watching the show thinking… Allison inspires us!

she's hands down our favorite female contemporary dancer - like - ever. we've all been fans of her since she was one half of Ivason on season 2 of 'SYTYCD'. even though we're obsessed with the show every season, and even though we're amazed by the dancers every year, Allison still blows our minds like noone else. when we found out they were bringing back all-stars for season 7 and she was one of them, we completely flipped out with excitedness!

i've been in some form of dancing, gymnastics, and cheerleading since I was 3. i've always been super passionate about dance, and i've always known that i love to dance, but i'm also really shy, so performing is a total contradiction to who i am when i'm not performing. to get past my shyness, and to be able to perform, i've always just kind of put on my 'cheerleader charm' and done the routines, the steps, and the technique fine - but there is this whole other world of dance i hadn't connected with until i saw Allison dance. the part where dance is outside of the head, and totally about the heart.

when i saw Allison perform, the emotion she exudes completely took my breath away. watching her i realized that the connection i've always been missing with dance is the ability to forget the steps and let energy take over and get lost. what i feel when i watch Allison dance is what i want to find in myself and feel when i'm dancing. she dances with so much raw honesty, and complete abandon. vulnerable and fearless all at once. Allison has completely inspired me to start back at square 1 in my journey of dance, move passed the "cheerleader", and search for an actual artist within myself.
