the hometown...

we remember these boys when they were in San Diego, right now they're in Seattle, but they are moving back to Cali this Spring. phew. they move a lot like we do haha. wherever they are, as long as they make music, we're happy.

the lowdown...

some music fans have this "I hate when the unsigned bands I love get big" issue, but we for sure don't. if we love a band, we want to scream it at the top of our lungs and turn everyone into a fan. we also want the bands we love to be able to do what they love - and being paid to do it is how that happens, haha! these boys are currently unsigned, but we're pretty sure that will change soon, and we're wishing big things for them.

why we're so stoked on this band...

when you fall in love with a song, it's pretty easy to be stoked on the vocals, the lyrics, or the hook, but this is one of those bands where we can't stop being drawn in by all the different layers and intricacies of their songs. like the intro harmonies on "Never Let Go", the piano break on "What It Means To Love", or the drum bridge on "Unwound". not only is every song different than the next, it seems like everytime we listen to each song, we hear something new, or get hooked on a little part we love.

Ryan, who is vocals for the band, was super nice and answered some questions for us...

Pretty Princess Girls:

Hey! Thank you soo much for doing this! We've been fans of yours since waaay back when 'Never Let Go' came out and it was our myspace song for like 6 months haha. We feel like you guys definitely deserve a ton more attention and we can't wait until you get signed! You had a really big 2009 - lotsa touring, the Japan Tour, The Hot Topic In-stores... are you guys excited for 2010 and do you think this will be a major break through year for you?

2009 was definitely a big year for us being an unsigned band. We got a lot of opportunities that even signed bands don't often get, so I think we really grew and progressed as a band. But 2010 is our year! We are hoping to do a ton of touring both at home and overseas. We want to make a decision on the right label home for us, and put out an awesome full length record!

Your tours have included other bands such as Hit the Lights, Valencia, Every Avenue, and even Lifehouse - that's so huge. Has it been inspiring? Crazy? Some of the best times ever?

We've had some great tours, but nothing could compare to our first tour in Japan with those bands. It was really the first "big" tour we've ever done, and it wasn't even in our own country! It is definitely inspiring to be included with a good lineup of bands, and it encourages us to work even harder to get to that level ourselves.

With the piano, and the arrangements of your songs it seems like you guys are more into your musicianship than a lot of other young bands might be. Do you guys consider that a really important aspect of your band?

I'm not gonna be one to say that other bands aren't into musicianship, but I will say that for us it's crucial. We've all been playing music for at least a decade now in some form, and our pianist was classically trained and has been playing for 17 years! I think good musicianship for us is a way to set ourselves apart from other "pop" oriented bands. We focus on melody and structure first and foremost, and as long as you've got that catchy hook everything else follows pretty easily.

There are a lot of songs out that can be pretty mean to girls and even degrading sometimes. Some of your guys lyrics are actually really - no offense - sweet, haha. We love that! Is that something you guys are even aware of and do intentionally, or are you just nice guys in disguise ;)?

Haha, well I'm glad you love it! Honestly, I wouldn't say it's necessarily something I'm aware of when writing lyrics, but it does come off that way. I think as I've matured, I've just come to respect females much more... and plus I don't know how long my girlfriend would stick around if I was disrespecting girls all the time! :)

Haha true. Take notes boys... the nice guys get the girl in the end :D. Speaking of girls, since you guys are looking for a new touring guitarist, would you ever consider having a girl in the band?

We've never really discussed that option, but it's definitely something we would consider if the right person came along. We're looking for talent, good work ethic, and a good personality first and foremost, so if a girl came along with everything we're looking for she would definitely be in the running!

The Real You - CW11 music underground...

it's an old school interview with CW11's music underground show in Seattle. we think it's such a cool clip though, because you can see that Ryan's voice is just as amazing live, you get to see how stoked their local fans are about them, and in the middle you catch a glimpse of their song "Wrong Side of My Head" before it even had a title! :D
