the interview...
Basia is so awesome, and she took time to answer our fashion fan questions. she also gave us a little fashion heads up and sent us some fall fashion trends to look out for!
Pretty Princess Girls:
Thank you so much for taking the time to answer our questions, we're totally star struck right now! You work with huge clients and companies that impact the style of our generation. Selena Gomez, Disney, MTV, Teen, Victoria Justice... these are all major influences on our daily style. Since you work with people who inspire the everyday girl, do you ever have moments where you see your style influence on the streets, on real girls?
Basia Richard:
Yes, I absolutely do. That is the core of my styling. I like shopping at great retailers and brands that offer really amazing pieces at great prices like Target, Gap and Sears. I see a lot of looks that I would wear - funky jackets with vintage t-shirts, skinny jeans and ankle boots. And when you are looking for affordable trends, I recommend checking out mastercardmarektplace.com where you can find great savings and special offers from many of your favorite brands and retailers.
Pretty Princess Girls:
We completely freaked out when we saw Saffron Burrows on your client list! Her whole family is fashion amazing to us. Her sister Lily Aldridge is hands down our favorite model of all time, so we had a fashion fangirl moment haha. It really is so exciting what you get to do. Even though you have such a successful career and you work with style icons all the time, do still ever pinch yourself at the amazing people you get to work with?
Basia Richard:
I love what I do. As I was growing up I always dreamed of meeting great actors and actresses and now I have the opportunity to be a part of their lives and it is a great adventure for me.
Pretty Princess Girls:
K... dream fashion scenario advice. If magic happens, and our favorite actor that we have a crush on miraculously calls us out of the blue, and asks us to be his date to the Golden Globes, what are we going to wear?! What would be your advice to the average girl for finding the perfect dress for something way above her normal fashion experience?
Basia Richard:
Fashion should be fun and help you feel sophisticated and comfortable. I would recommend looking for a flowy dress in white or light colors. You will look young and chic and feel like a princess.
Pretty Princess Girls:
We read about your music background. We are huge music nerds, and music has a big influence on our fashion energy. Does music influence your styling and the trends you are drawn to?
Basia Richard:
Yes it definitely does. I admire and follow a lot of bands that inspire me – Rock and Punk in particular. I pick up elements of their style and then make it my own. I also listen to music to help get me in the mood for what I need to shop for.
Pretty Princess Girls:
What is your own personal style, and do you have as much fun styling yourself as you do styling clients?
Basia Richard:
My personal style is funky, affordable chic. The great thing about my job is that I can infuse my style with what my client likes to put together great looks. Fashion is meant to make you feel comfortable with yourself and help you express your own style.
Pretty Princess Girls:
Lastly, do you have a favorite fashion moment of a client you styled that you'll never forget?
Basia Richard:
I will never forget styling for my first red carpet. I was definitely nervous, but when my client walked the red carpet she looked effortlessly chic and stunning. She had so much confidence in what she was wearing and how she looked. It was a very proud moment for me.
