the prom dress search…
it can be totally overwhelming when you start your search for the perfect prom dress, but it’s not so bad if you start with a theme or style focus. are you girlie, sexy, rebellious? who are you and what statement do you want to make with your dress?
once you pick a vibe you want to carry off you’ve got a focus to run with! but before you go crazy, set your budget. once that’s taken care of, decide short or long, pick a color, and narrow it down to a dress that really feels like “you”.

Sexy Kitten
so maybe you're not about the pink, the tiaras, and the ball gowns. you want something sexy and sleek. your inspiration is the "cocktail dress", but because it's prom, you still want your dress to be special and more than just an LBD or a sexy red number. for colors, you can still go with reds & blacks, but add prom worthy glamour by choosing a dress in a fabric that has a sheen or a daring color fade. you want to wear a short dress, but you can still have prom queen level drama with daring architectural details and spaghetti straps, one shoulder, or strapless tops.

Prom Princess
this is you if you're all about having the "traditional" prom experience. you do want the tiara, the title, and the classic pink prom dress. your inspiration is "prom princess". whether it's petal pink, bubblegum pink, salmon pink, or hot pink you will want to be full on committed to pink! you can go with a long ball gown, or a short babydoll, and you can cherish your inner princess with jewel embellishments, empire waists, and fancy pleats.

Sunny Sweetheart
you love to dress pretty, feminine, and cheery. your inspiration is "springtime sweetness". for colors go with pale yellows, baby blue blues, soft greens, rosy peaches, and pastel pinks. make sure it's prom pretty with sparkles or elegant ruching, and pull in soft and sweet with flowy fabrics and flower or bow accents.

Vintage Vixen
you love to take risks and venture off the typical fashion path. your inspiration is "vintage vibe". vintage is a unique statement, but legit vintage prom dresses are hard to come by, and then if you do find a gem, it might not be so budget-friendly. if that's the case, don't worry, there are a ton of adorable vintage inspired dresses to choose from. vintage dress colors are muted and washed out. think champagnes, beiges, lavender, faded gold, ivory, and soft peaches. embrace laces, light fabrics, and antique ruffles.

I love #1 on Sexy Kitten. I’m actually looking for a dress that’s not body hugging but short, and I didn’t think there were any loose fitting dresses, that aren’t babydoll dresses, that would work short without looking too casual. That’s perfect, it’s still elegant enough but it’s not a skin glove haha. Thank you!
