It Gets Better…
what’s the inspiration?
what is it?
a movement meant to bring hope to LGBT kids and teens, and other young people being bullied and harassed. it all started when a guy named Dan Savage created a YouTube video to let kids know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. ‘It Gets Better’ is a place where kids can go and have people tell them it does get better.
why we’re buzzing?
we’re unbelievably passionate about anti-bullying and inspiring self love, and we think what Dan and the ‘It Gets Better Project’ are doing is beautiful.
why it matters to us...
all of us girls are straight, but that's irrelevant. we're all human, and that's what matters. we believe that no girl, boy, child, teen, adult, or person should ever be bullied, tormented, or made to feel unworthy in any way just for being who they are.
our generation...
our generation has often been criticized as being "lost" or "messed up". but the truth is, a lot of the anger and lashing out was learned at home. so many of us have grown up in broken homes, angry or abusive homes, homes full of judgment, and homes without love. unfortunately the negativity so many of us experienced has turned into kids in our society abusing each other in ways that are more cruel and brutal than any kid should ever experience. we think that underneath all of that, our generation is incredibly creative and passionate, and we can be the ones to turn this world around.
what the 'It Gets Better Project' does...
they collect user created videos from people who share their stories, thoughts, and feelings to let LGBT kids and teens know they are not alone, that they are worthy, and they should hold strong to hope through the hard times, because better things can be real. they have currently collected over 10,000 user-created videos that have been viewed over 35 million times. there are people whose lives this project saves. every. day.
what you can do...
- Record - share your story, make your own video, keep the movement going.
- Pledge - take the pledge, show your support, let the kids who are hurting know that people out there do care.
- Watch Videos - watch the videos and be inspired. or maybe if you don't understand, maybe you have been a bully, maybe you have judged and harassed others in the past... it's never too late to change. watch the videos and open your mind... educate yourself.
- Choose Kindness - let's be the generation that chooses kindness, that embraces each other instead of tearing each other apart. let's open our minds and hearts, and instead of punishing each other for our differences, let's love and embrace each other for our brilliant varieties.
