we want to help, but sometimes it's so confusing what we can actually do. their website makes it super easy for any one of us to be part of the solution ...even if we do one little thing... it still matters :D.

A Beautiful Lie Tips - how we can all help....

here are some really awesome tips from ABeautifulLie.org. we're not perfect or by any means doing all that we can, but we'll let you know what we are doing... and maybe you'll be inspired to make a little bit of a difference too!

Tip 1

Slow down to cut costs and cut carbon! Slowing down from 75 mph to 65 mph will drop your highway gasoline consumption 15 percent.

believe it or not, we follow this one. maybe partly because we got in trouble for speeding in the past, ha ha, but think about this one for reals - you stay out of speeding ticket danger, you save money on gas because you're getting better gas mileage, and you help the movement by reducing gas consumption, all at once. it's totally win-win-win!

Tip 2

If everyone took 30 seconds to inflate their tires to the proper pressure we would save 200,000 barrels of oil a day!

Pretty Princess Girls:

our mommies nag us about our tire pressure, so yup, we do this one too. k - so we don't actually know how to do this ourselves, but when we get our oil changed every 3 months, we ask for them to check it and fill it for us. seriously such an easy thing to do, and while you're making a positive effort for the environment, you're making your car safer for yourself too, so it's a really good habit to get into!

Tip 3

Bring Your Own Bag: You'll save one mile's worth of petroleum for every 14 plastic bags you don't use. Not to mention cut down on pollution - we throw away over 30 billion one time use bags each year.

Pretty Princess Girls:

we have to admit, we aren't always good about this one :(. we need to get better about having our reusable shopping bags in our car so that we have them every time we're out. but we do have them a lot of the time! the best way to start is to get some cute reusable bags - krissie has Hello Kitty ones, ha ha, but that way you'll want to remember your bags.

Tip 4

The paper industry is the world's 3rd largest contributor to global warming. Choose Recycled TP next time you're at the store.

yup! this one's easy. you can actually get recycled tp at the dollar store. it's not an expensive one, ha ha, so go for it.

Tip 5

Ditch the screensaver - it wastes a ton of energy! Grab a 30 Seconds to Mars or ItsYourNature wallpaper instead.

this one is waaay easy - and having a wallpaper of jared leto is pretty easy too ;).

Tip 6

Unplug your electronics! At the end of the day shut down your computer, unplug your cell charger, coffee bean grinder, and hair dryer. It only takes 30 seconds and it all adds up.

Pretty Princess Girls:

we for sure do the hair dryer, computers, and toaster oven. this saves you money on your power bill too, which is neat :D.

Tip 7

Take shorter showers, turn off the water while you brush your teeth and shave, and run washing machines and dishwashers only when they're full. If you wash dishes by hand, fill the sink or dishpan with water, rather than running the tap continuously as you scrub.

long showers is for sure our weakness - we haven't taken that step, buuuut turning the water off while we brush our teeth - so easy! we do this one always. and running the washing machine and dishwasher only when full, we do that for sure. again, it saves you money on your power bill too, so it's a good choice all together!

Tip 8

Put on a sweater and lower the thermostat in the winter. At night, add an extra blanket to the bed and turn the heat way down.

this one was actually one we never would have wanted to do when we didn't have to pay our own bills. we haaate being cold ha ha! but, once you see a monster winter heating bill, you might be motivated to try this one out. sooo, instead of having the heater way up and paying a supa huge bill, spend the money on some extra pairs of cute, warm, comfy pj pants and help out your planet!

Tip 9

Make BIG change happen and sign a petition today at www.itsyournature.org/petition or donate $5 to support the work of the Natural Resources Defense Council.

an extra idea from us...

most of the time we shop at our farmer's market and health food stores for local, organic produce. it's neat for a couple reasons... first, you get healthier food for yourself. it's less likely to have chemicals, and it will be fresher because it hasn't traveled as far to get to you, so it will still have a higher level of nutrients. then, you cut down on gas consumption from globally transported food and you support the organic food industry.
